Me and my apple tea (this is gonna be a long one...so hang tight)

I've had a fierce craving for sashimi for a couple of days now and I finally got to satisfy it at Mitsuwa this afternoon. I got a box of sushi and a bottle of apple tea...which I would say is only so-so. Will finish. Will not repurchase.

Yesterday's dinner party/potluck/cooking shindig went rather well I think. Everybody brought over delicious food and I think we were all rather pleased with our own and each other's cooking skills. I made a lime chicken (reworked Brady's lemon chicken recipe) with a tomato and avocado salsa (chicken turned out amazingly moist and just a bit tart) and my favorite tapas dish ever...fried potatoes with aioli. My garlic aioli started to separate and looked pretty unappetizing after just a couple hours out of the fridge, but the one that I doctored with Cholula and chili powder stayed creamy and delicious all night. I'm actually pretty darn proud of myself! Anyway.

I got to thinking about relationships today. Well, actually I was thinking about the end of relationships. I've had three boyfriends prior to VV. Obviously, they all ended with a breakup of some sort. What these breakups had in common, though, is that they were very final (in my mind, anyway) and there were no loose ends, no real unanswered questions. In that sense, they were all good breakups (or as good as a breakup could be, anyway). In each case, I knew exactly why it had ended, and I'm pretty sure the ex-boyfriend did as well.

But what happens if you don't know why you broke up? If you don't know why your significant other wanted out? After a little bit of pondering, I decided that if someone left me for someone else, I'd rather know up front instead of getting some vague/sketchy reason (like "it's not you...it's me"). Of course, with a vague/sketchy reason you don't get that initial heart-wrenching/gut-twisting/mind-numbing pain you'd have if you found out the truth up front...but instead you'll be left wondering "what happened?" and will spend what seems like an eternity trying to figure it out, which in the end I think is far, far worse.

But, I ramble.

My apple tea is now room temperature. Pretty unappetizing.

Btw, this post has absolutely nothing to do with me and VV. My mind just wanders sometimes...!

Tired

Spent the entire day doing chores and cooking...and watching Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations (still am!) which I have deemed awesome.

Fridge and freezer are stocked with food and beverages (of both the alcoholic and non-alcoholic variety) and my aiolis are ready to go...

Todo list for tomorrow:

- Dice avocados and mix with tomatoes.
- Make chicken.
- Fry potatoes (I'm scared)

Happy Thanksgiving!

Just waiting for the potatoes to finish cooking so I can start mashing them into goodness! I'll probably blog later when I'm at my parents' place. Just wanted to say happy thanksgiving!

Break

Just me taking a little break during work. As you can see I actually bothered to put on makeup today...for the first time in three days :P Actually, I didn't even finish because I was making VV late for work. Oh well.

I'm usually pretty damn negative and critical when it comes to myself. That said, I have to say my hair color is pretty freaking awesome. I used to wish I had super dark, glossy hair like every other asian girl but now I think its brown-ness is pretty cool. The last time I got my hair cut the stylist asked if it was my natural hair color. When I said it was she asked me if I was mixed =0 That has got to be the first time I've ever been asked that before. Weird!

You know what else is weird? That I feel more comfortable posting photos of myself on this thing now than I ever have. Maybe I'll do it daily. Sometimes I wish I had a visual record of how I've grown (and shrank) and changed over the years. Perhaps this is the way to go.

I sort of love this self-portrait actually. It was on a whim w/ my p/s. A little bit of a contrast and saturation boost in photoshop and *BAM* awesome!

Experimentation

The quality of these photos is absolutely, positively shoddy. I blame Artweaver for this. Must get Photoshop on Acer asap! I also can't find my camera remote which is beyond annoying. At least it wasn't expensive. I guess I'll have to get a replacement? Although...rule dictates that as soon as I buy a new one, the old one will show up ;P

In any case, I'm rather pleased with the garage-cum-studio for now. It helps that VV keeps it impossibly clean. It's a shame that he didn't get the finish for the garage floor that he'd originally wanted. When he first got his place he really wanted a white finish on his garage floor...the kind that car dealers have in their showrooms. Now how cool would that have been for taking photos?

Uncomfortable

I seriously think I'm having a bad week in general...especially looks-wise. Argh? Hence the overexposure in the photo...haha. It helps abstract all that is bothering me. Also helps that my face is partially covered.

I am, however, immensely pleased that the sleeve length on my sweater is just about perfect. Thank goodness for petite clothing.

About this weekend

Ack! Okay so it was Robbie's birthday but I think I ended up being the drunkest person there by far. Ugh, I don't even want to know what his friends think of me now! By the time we were seated with our food @ the Mexican place (I can't even remember the freaking name!) I had lapsed into a ridiculously intense silence that was the product of me concentrating super-hard on not puking!

But, you know, I was so me that night it was ridiculous. And if they didn't like it, well, I sense trouble :P

I looked really fat in all the videos that VV took. Yuck yuck yuck. It's probably good that I was too nauseated to eat much of those AMAZING carne asada fries.

Stifled.

There...I did it. I finally moved the blog and I DIDN'T TELL ANYONE.

It's so not about the hits on my tracker anymore. I hardly have any readers, and can you really blame anyone? I used to be able to write so freely, but not anymore. I don't know...I just need an outlet. Something that I can use the way I used to use my blog. So here I am!

This should be easy enough to find for anyone who really wants to, but I just really needed to get away, you know?

Maybe now I'll update more, heh.

Some Halloweenie update-age...nearly one month late!

So after work on Halloween I made the grueling drive (4 hours SERIOUSLY) out to West Hollywood in order to meet up with some friends and see the madness of the sights and sounds of the westside. After parking, walking, and a 45 minute wait outside of Rage I was finally in...where lovely Leanne had a fuzzy navel ready and waiting for me! We were almost immediately assailed by a jester in red and black and a fobby japanese bunny (pictured above) with no pants (just little white briefs) who insisted on taking photos with his camera and then danced and did body rolls for us before running off.

We then spent our time weaving our way through the crowd and having many interesting encounters with the natives. There was a creepy older man (I'm thinking 50-60) who kept hanging around the fringes of our girl group, countless winged angels, countless men in no shirts and briefs or hot pants, a supposedly straight male stripper who danced at gay clubs for money who took quite a liking to Leanne...and oh, yes, a Sarah Palin who agreed to a group photo with us and sent us off with a reminder to vote, to which we responded "We will...but not for you!"

The night ended with us dancing on the platform at one end of the club with a couple of sweaty gays that seemed to like us a bit too much. I think I realized it was about time to go after being bitten for the second time that night and nearly losing my shoe when one of them picked me up.

We eased ourselves off the stage and made our way to the exit. On our way back to the parking structure, April and Leanne took a picture with a giant Jamba Juice banana and we made acquaintances with an un-costumed SF-to-OC transplant who had a bone to pick with Prop 8 supporters and his sexy-legged cross-dressing friend "Sandrina" who looked smashing in fishnets, tall boots and the cutest LBD. All and all, the night was quite a success.

And for those of you who do not like reading what I write, the picture below basically sums up the latter part of the night. Boys in short-shorts abound!

Smoke and smoke

More wildfires. Did not make their way out here though, much to VV's relief.

(he has a healthy fear of them after last year's scare!)

The smoke was incredible on Sunday, though. The instant I stepped out of my car I started to sneeze like mad. Insanity.

Still need to post some Halloween photos. Maybe this week?

Think I saw one of the ex-boyfriend's friends (who was also an acquaintance of mine since he was also an ICS major) at the gym yesterday. Nearly had a heart attack on the elliptical when I saw him coming up the stairs, half-anticipating him to be with said ex-boyfriend (even though I believe he doesn't even live in Orange County anymore). I'm still not entirely sure why I'm so afraid to see him.

Little Big Planet tonight! With my big little brother!

HELLO ALL

So I finally finished posting the photos I wanted to post from NYC on Flickr.

Here they are!

And these here are the NYC photos that VV posted! He posted his favorites from both of us, and actually posted a lot more of my photos than I did (and this is in addition to his photos) so there are a lot of pictures!

Oh, and VV posted posted lots of videos too...including this awesome one of Huntz's break at Fat Cat ;)

Crushed

It was a bittersweet victory. Obama won (come on we all knew it was going to happen), prop 4 didn't pass, but the one issue I was really holding my breath on...

Proposition 8. It stands at 52% in favor, 48% against. California, what is wrong with you?

I have opinions on a lot of issues, but for most of them I can respect the opposing side's opinions and I can see where they're coming from. The reason I will readily speak out on issue of same-sex marriage is because I absolutely cannot see a rational reason to oppose it.

CNN exit poll data for prop 8.

Okay, now here comes the real rant.

First off, the campaign for proposition 8 was ridiculous and based on total lies meant to scare the public. If it were true that voting no on proposition 8 would mean that all children would be forced to sit through a unit on same-sex marriages, if it were really true that voting no on proposition 8 meant that churches who did not wish to perform same-sex ceremonies would lose benefits afforded other religious institutions then I would have voted no on proposition 8. As much as I think that it would be fine for children to learn about same-sex marriages and as much as I think all religions should be able to accept homosexuality, it is not my place for me to impose those beliefs--my beliefs--on others.

But, of course, none of that was even remotely true. Why use such thin lies in your campaign? Because the truth is unacceptable. I would say that a good percentage of the supporters of proposition 8 probably voted as such because of their religious beliefs. Look at any comment thread or discussion and look at the rationale of the prop 8 supporters. How many of them use the argument that God defines marriage as the joining together of one man and one woman? Vote with your heads, not your Bibles! I respect your right to believe in what you believe in, but it's not your place to force those beliefs on everyone else!

As for the others who voted for/supported proposition 8, I think their votes/support was based on either prejudice (not a legitimate reason to take away the rights of a minority group) or misinformation (which is really sad).

The silver lining in this huge cloud is that, if you look at the exit polls and the demographics of who voted for what, many of the opponents of proposition 8 were young. What this does is give me hope that in a few generations, the majority opinion will change. Maybe California just wasn't ready for this yet. But it will be. I'm sure of that.

But for now? WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU LOS ANGELES. I expected more from you. On Twitter I saw a tweet that said "Southern California needs to be its own state." If that ever happened I told VV that we're both moving to NorCal, but for now I'm going to continue to cast my vote here and help to make the mini-red state that is Orange County as purple as possible!

RAWWWWRRGGHHH

Dirty Dave: Kelly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Dirty Dave: WHY DO PEOPLE HATE GAY PEOPLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEee
Dirty Dave: LETTTTTTTTTT THEMMMMMMMMMMM BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Dude WORD.

But yeah, I blogged my thoughts on same-sex marriage and the people who oppose it, and I must say that my sentiments have not changed one. single. BIT. Except maybe now I'm even angrier at the opposition because it's being rubbed in my face every. single. DAY.

I really hate those television commercials and I hate that the opponents claim they're trying to preserve "family values" by keeping marriage "sacred". WTF.

What pisses me off even more is that they're using the argument that keeping same-sex marriage legal will mean that everyone's kids will have to learn about same-sex marriages in school.

First of all, I had no idea that it was required that schools teach about marriage. I don't remember any marriage unit in any of my classes. But okay, so maybe it is required. If that's really their concern then they should be taking up that issue with the school district or whatever and fight for an "opt-out" option. I mean SERIOUSLY.

And you know what pisses me off even more?! The people who say things like "If we legalize same-sex marriage, the next thing you know we'll be legalizing marriage to animals/adult-child marriage/[insert ridiculous pairing here!" The fact that people even think of comparing homosexuality to bestiality/pedophilia/[insert major taboo here] makes me want to puke. We're talking two consenting adults here! What's the big issue?!

And the whole civil unions thing, while better than nothing, is still kind of bull. Didn't we determine, like, a half a century ago that "separate but equal" is still considered discrimination? Which is, like, not cool?

Okay, it's late and I'm not making a whole lot of sense right now and my allergies are messing up my whole head and face, but it's almost election time here in California (6 more hours?!) so go out and do your thing! I know I will be (I hope) for the first time everrrr. Better late than never, I say!

Oh, and btw I'm voting NO on 8. In case that wasn't clear.

Busy weekend

So I have a ton of photos...some are gonna go on Flickr and some are gonna go here.

- West Hollywood is insane. Trying to get there is insane-er.
- Spend about 50% of yesterday drunk on wine.
- Ate too much!
