Happy EVE

So on xmas evening, after most of my family left and it was just me, VV, my mom and my dad (via google videochat) my mom literally raided the liquor cabinet and I...drank too much. She also brought out a small bag of Doritos because she said Crown Royal (her side of the family's drink of choice) goes well with it. I also had some Kaluha tasting liqueur that my dad had recieved as a gift back in the 80's or early 90's or something and mescal with a worm in it. That was gross. And not because of the worm.

Bite-sized

(03:59:48 PM) me: are joo ready to eat bagel scraps tonight?
(03:59:56 PM) vv: YAYYYYYYYYYYY

I love tiny foods. I also love smoked salmon with cream cheese. My mom had asked me to bring an appetizer to Thanksgiving so I decided to shrink a smoked salmon/cream cheese bagel into a bite-sized hor d'eourve.

I bought plain bagels and punched out little circles using a circular fondant cutter. I spread plain cream cheese over the top and put a mix of chopped smoked salmon and diced onions over the cream cheese. Garnished with a slice of cherry tomato and some green onion for color.

These photos were from Thanksgiving but I made these for xmas as well. This time I made VV do the bagel cutting and cream cheese spreading for me. I think he liked it because he could eat the leftover pieces of bagel as he worked.

Have a happy holiday y'allll

Xmas is almost here...

...which means that it's almost over! *RELIEF* The worst is over, though. I hate shopping for gifts. I'm easily stressed out and shopping for a billion gifts at once makes my head spin.

I've finished some of the food prep for xmas food. VV's family celebrates on the 24th and my family celebrates on the 25th. It's convenient because then we can go to both dinners but it complicates my cooking timeline.

  • Need to get devonshire cream.
  • My pie crust sucks.
  • Want to figure out how to recreate this cocktail because it was effin delicious!
  • Wish I knew how to create liquid mozzarella spheres.
  • Need to wrap one more gift.

EFFIN A

So the commenting system I've been using for the past four years or so (longer even?) has decided to change up their services and start charging. It's not too expensive, but I figure that this is a good a time as any to start using Blogger's built-in commenting system. I think I've figured out how to import the xml files but I need to figure out how to format them correctly so Blogger will know what to do with the comment threads ;P

If anyone knows of an existing script that will make a Haloscan (or Blogback...meh) xml file Blogger-friendly then please let me know! If not, I guess I'll have to go about writing one myself. Or doing it by hand (HA YEAH RIGHT).

Holy crap I'm past 3,000

I didn't even notice, but I finally surpased 3,000 posts. This here is my 3,004th.

---

I'm pretty sure I'd like cold weather and rain just a little better if I could find boots that fit me right (or...at all....)

---

Am thinking that it would be fun to just sit around and get hammered with friends just for old time's sake. Sounds lame (and possibly not healthy) but it's a good time. Plus, good stories always come out of nights like those.

---

Am also thinking it would be fun to go to an amusement park. Or it would be if it wasn't so MUTHA EFFIN' COLD.

---

Need to get my ass to the gym more often before it gets so fat it doesn't fit through the door. The holidays have not been kind to me...and they aren't even over yet. DAMMIT.

Cherry love

A few weeks ago the Korean and the Counselor had invited VV and I over for tacos and beer. Later that night I somewhat drunkenly asked if I could pop open the unopened jar of maraschino cherries I had seen in the fridge. The Korean and I proceeded to eat them straight from the jar with chopsticks.

Chopsticks are awesome utensils.

EFFIN A I love maraschino cherries. I can't eat them the way I did when I was a kid (unless I'm drunk I guess) but I still love them and regularly steal them from any bar foolish enough to leave their garnishes within my reach. My favorite part of Cruel Intentions was the giant tureen (or whatever the hell that was!) of maraschino cherries that Katherine (Sarah Michelle Gellar) had beside her bed. Dammit I wish I could find a screen capture of it.

Need to think of some inventive ways to use the juice in cocktails. Before I started drinking I always thought grenadine would taste like maraschino cherry juice. I was sad to discover that it didn't.

Also, holy crap I just looked at the wiki page for maraschino cherries and now I know why almond flavoring always reminds me of cherries--almond extract is used to flavor maraschino cherries. Don't I feel stupid.

There is no point to this post. My head is exploded.
