Damon's Surprise Dinner @ Buca's

Damon's Surprise Dinner @ Bucas June 12

Yeah so it's (really) late. At least I'm doing it.

Damon and his lovely girlfriend Sar walking in. I don't know who the hell that guy is.

By the time I got to Buca's, Jason, Sandy, her bf, Derek, and a couple of others were already there. We chilled there and waited for everyone else (including birthday boy) to get there. HoHo and Lyn got there later with party favors and plastic leis. Damon and Sar got there at around...nine? I don't know. Actually the photo is time stamped but I'm too lazy to go look. Anyway, they got there. He was surprised. It was all G double O D good.

The Buca di Beppo candelabra

At the end of dinner they came around with tiramisu and the requisite birthday candelabra. I think this is also about when Damon opened his gifts. Mine was the best. I gave him a textbook I had borrowed from him at the beginning of the school year because I am BADASS.

HoHo and I like taking pictures in restrooms. These are just two of many.

After many bathroom trips, we headed out. Me, Jason, HoHo, Derek, Lyn, Damon and Sar went to Damon and Lyn's place to hang out. We looked at Jason's digital photos on their television and hung out until the AM. Even Derek stayed till late, even though he had to drive back to Irvine afterwards. What a guy :D

Ape: I touched his peach!

July 26, 2004

Did I mention that my badass little brother washed my car yesterday? He didn't even tell me he was going to do it, he just did it.

We had our rap session (not that rap) yesterday at Venice Hongwanji. Details later. I have a presentation to work on.

Because it matters to some

I went to the beach today. By myself. It was fun.

Kit has this theory that my knee is screwy because I baby it too much. So today I went running. On the beach. Unfortunately for me, there appeared to be a whole daycare at the beach right smack in the middle of the shoreline. It wouldn't have been so bad if it was a big beach, but I was on a tiny beach at high tide. Every time I went past them I had to stop running and pick my way around them so I wouldn't smash any of their sandcastles, kick sand on any of the kids, or step in any of their holes. I only ran a little bit. I have no stamina.

One of the things I learned from being with Kit was how to locate sandcrabs. It was something he had taught me only a few weeks into the relationship.

It took me two years to get it.

Anyway, I caught a bunch of the little buggers. It feels really weird when you scoop up a handful of sand and feel their little legs scrambling against your hand. The worst part was, now that I know how it feels to feel them in my hands, I am also able to feel them under my feet every time the water recedes. I eventually had to move further down the beach to a place where there were fewer crabs.

Oh yeah, and I got pummeled twice by the waves. My left hip was dragged across the sand and it now stings like a mother. It was fun. I want to go back again later this week. Except next time I think I'll clean off a little better before I leave. I brought about half the beach back in my top, and I brought the other half back in my bottoms. A couple more trips to the beach and I could probably turn our patio into a sandbox.

I have an oral presentation tomorrow. My professor emailed us feedback on our last presentation and she said she was looking forward to mine. Poop.

I am a superfob

So I was at Barnes & Noble yesterday morning. I was going up the stairs when I (thought) I heard some man behind me saying "How much? How much?" I was like "Oh what the...my skirt isn't that short..." so I turned around to see who the punk was. It was an Indian man who looked to be about fifty, and as it turned out he was saying "Konnichiwa", not "How much?" Yes, I'm deaf. So anyway, he was like "Japan?" so I said yes, thinking he was trying to guess my ethnicity. I was impressed, actually. No one ever gets my ethnicity right on the first guess. He then said "You go to school over there, right?" while gesturing off to the side. Since I was in the middle of a bookstore and had no idea which direction he was pointing towards, I just said yeah. He said "Oh, I've seen you around school." He then said that he remembered that I was was studying the English language to which I said "Excuse me?" It turns out he had mistook me for what I believe is a girl from Japan studying English at a nearby community college.

Holy poop I didn't think my English was that bad.

Anyway, went to Cabazon yesterday with the bf.

Still need to post party pics.

Actually, I still need to post a lot of photos.

Hang tight, folks. I'll get around to it.

GRE

I am stupider than I was in high school. Quantitatively 400 points stupider. Okay, not "stupider" since a "standardized test is not an accurate measure of intelligence." Blah blah blah. I still feel stupid. Fine. I mean I didn't mind standardized tests much in high school because back then my scores said I was a brilliant little sh.t with a bright future.

I love Gabby. Anyway, I have to say that I'm feeling the same way right now. I just took a Princeton Review practice GRE (one verbal and one math section) and although my math score was about 90 points higher than my highest SAT score (good), my verbal went down by at lot. And how much is "a lot"? Oh, only 360 points (!).

Good thing I'm not teaching this year. I'm drowning in shame. In fact, I even deleted the results of the practice exam (destroying the evidence is good).

I took the exam at work and was very distracted. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Guy: So does your boyfriend ever say anything about your boobs? (read: Has your boyfriend ever told you that your boobs are too small?)

Me: No. (read: No. Unlike you, he knows better)

This was the third or fourth comment he had made about my boobs in the space of like, two months. I had known him for like, two months. I think they really bothered him or something because he would not lay off. Fricken' a...you'd think I was concave or something the way he talked about them.

-got a snow cone made by amy hill ;D

Obon

Yesterday was the first day of Obon.

Met at Dee's grandma's house.

Went to Barnes Park for the open call. IT WAS SO FREAKIN' HOT! The info for the casting call specified 8-18, but many were over 18. There was even this one (snotty) woman who looked like she was freakin' 30.

Met up with Neener's boyfriend at Subway for lunch and then went to buy little bottles of booze for Leslie's (very belated) 21st birthday gift.

Went back to Dee's grandma's house where we all took turns being tortured by the massage chair.

Headed over to Nishi at around two.

Saw Styna behind me in my rearview mirror when heading over 1st street bridge. Had an awful time looking for parking.

Found parking. Went to go eat some more.

Did trash rounds.

Found Styna by the flower booth.

Went to go work in a veryhot game booth.

Did another trash round.

Got dressed.

Danced (creepyguywithcamera =0)

Ran to go change so we could do another trash round.

And that's that.

Memoirs of a Geisha

Open call for girls 8-18 in MPK for Memoirs of a Geisha so head out there!

Haha. Actually, I'm starting to have doubts about that movie. And they haven't even started filming yet.

The book was very good though. Go out and read it.

Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden. Check it out.
